‘Breakers’

Inspired by love lost and found, ‘Breakers’ is a reference to the sails that guide our relationships with one another. Composed of ephemera ranging from hotel pamphlets to road maps, held in place by mothers chain of hearts, this book was made possible only by my chance encounter with a curious gentleman in front of Owl Tree bar on the corner of Post and Geary St. in San Francisco one foggy night. Over the course of about a handful of conversations, he offered me some number of boxes containing a multitude of media he was unloading to free up space in his crammed apartment building. The most prized of his possessions were aged love letters, going back to the late 19th Century. We were discussing the thousands of political letters he had scanned and uploaded on to a usb drive from the time of Lincoln’s presidency and if I was interested in the transcripts. That was the last time we spoke. This is my memory of him.
